Hi there, my name is Hai Dang. I am a PhD student affiliated with the HCI+AI Lab at the University of Bayreuth. I am broadly interested in Human-Computer Interaction (HCI) and machine learning.
I use my expertise in user research and system building to develop AI systems and empower people without software development skills to leverage AI for creative work such as writing or visual story telling. My goal is to improve human-AI interaction, focusing on AI as a tool to augment human creativity and productivity.
Most recently, I interned with the Autodesk Research HCI+Vis Team where I investigated the use of image-generating models for fictional world-building. Shortly after, I returned to Toronto for an internship with Meta Reality Labs Research to work on integrating generative AI for personal assistance.
Prior to my time at Bayreuth, I obtained a M.Sc. in Computer Science and a B.Sc. in Media Informatics at the LMU Munich. During my undergraduate studies, I also had the opportunity to spend an exchange year at Yonsei University, South Korea.

My time at Meta Reality Labs Research has concluded, marking the end of my summer 2023 on the east coast. Ben, as a mentor, was fantastic and has helped me shape my research through insightful discussions.
A happy Hai sitting at the registration desk welcoming conference attendees.

🚢 CHI'23 I attended this year's largest conference in human-computer interaction and presented our research paper. It has been a crazy week, but I was happy to reunite with old friends and meet fellow researchers as I “monitored” the conference floors as a student volunteer.
